Bird Flu Is The New Ebola You Guys

Remember when a monkey scratched some guy and that started an airborne Ebola epidemic in Outbreak? Well, Ebola still isn’t airborne and the news media hardly talks about it anymore (even though it’s still horrible). Now it’s all about swine flu and avian flu. I guess they think we’ll be more scared by cytokine storm than by the prospect of hemorrhaging blood from every orifice. (Guess which one scares me more. That’s right, spiders.) Oscar-winner Steven Soderbergh and Warner Brothers have picked up on the paranoia surrounding avian flu and made Outbreak 2: Bird Flu Boogaloo Contagion, opening September 9th.

It stars Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Ehle, and Jude Law as yellow-toothed exposition guy. The full trailer is over at Filmdrunk and we have a couple TV spots below, via FirstShowing. We also have a mashup made by Mike Eisenberg of ScreenRant. He noticed some similarities between Contagion and Outbreak. No surprise there; we seem to get a big budget outbreak movie every 15 years or so. Hollywood reuses movie outlines more often than Gwyneth Paltrow nourishes her inner aspect with the blood of albino orphans (or so I’ve heard).

I will never not use this Jude Law picture every chance I get. Speaking of which . . .

Yep.
