‘Captain America: Civil War’ Behind The Scenes Footage Shows A World Before CGI

At this point it’s clear that Captain America: Civil War is a huge, crazy smash hit. It’s cleaning up at the box office (like we all knew that it would) and seems to have the undying love and support of fans that recent comic films like The Age of Ultron and Batman v. Superman just didn’t have. That is exactly what comic movies need; a bit of a jolt in the arm to remind moviegoers that these are not just a funeral procession mourning the death of cinema, but are actually fun events that we get a few times a year.

One of the complaints that do float up around the time each new big Marvel movie happens is that there is a whole damned lot of CGI to make these movies happen. While CGI has become increasingly common and stunningly realistic thanks to advances in technology, it can be a bit much sometimes. Remember practical effects and how big of a deal it was that Star Wars: The Force Awakens was returning to those?

This video shows what all of those big, crazy stunts and explosions throughout the film look like without all of that pesky post-production work put into it. That means a whole lot of green screens, wires, crew members and some solid behind-the-scenes footage to what is shaping up to be one of this year’s biggest films. We really can’t live without CGI, can we?
