The ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer Broke Records, Hearts

Robert Downey, Jr. and Chris Evans debuted the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War on Jimmy Kimmel Live last Tuesday. So, how did that work out? Was anybody interested in this little underdog indie production? Marvel — Have you heard of them? So obscure. — issued a press release to let us know they’re still doing just fine, thank you.

Captain America: Civil War garnered a record-breaking 61 million views (online and TV combined) in 24 hours. Not only did it handily break the record for a Marvel movie (Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s 34 million first-day views), but it was the most-watched debut trailer of all-time, beating the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (55 million).

It’s worth noting it wasn’t the most-watched trailer ever, however, just the most-watched debut trailer, a testament to how hyped people are for this thing. The most-watched trailer ever is still the second trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which drew an astounding 112 million views in 24 hours.

The real winner in all of this? Disney, who owns both Lucasfilm and Marvel. No need to pit the two against each other. United we stand, divided we fall, and all that.
