Consoles, PCs, handhelds, Facebook, smartphones — the world of gaming is becoming increasingly confusing and fragmented, but don’t worry, we’re here to simplify things for you. Each week I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…

Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 & PS4, Aug. 19th)

Yes, Diablo III is being released in yet another new edition. This updated take on the console version of Diablo III contains the Reaper of Souls expansion, and will feature 1080p, 60fps graphics on the Xbox One and PS4. If you still haven’t plunged into the catacombs of Diablo III, this is the best reason yet.

This Week’s Confusingly Named Japanese Game

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment (PS Vita, Aug. 19th)

This game’s title may make it sound like some sort of online art tutorial, but Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment is actually a new action-RPG based on a series of popular Japanese YA novels. Looks like some solid hacky, slashy fun.

This Week’s Stealth Game

Counterspy (PS3, PS4 & PS Vita, Aug. 19th)

Counterspy is a new 2D stealth game featuring a stylish look and an equally stylish ’60s setting. The game is cross-buy compatible, so if you grab, say, the PS3 version you can also play it on Vita or the PS4 should you upgrade.

This Week’s Remake

Shadowgate (PC & Mac, Aug. 21st)

The classic creepy, maddeningly difficult NES adventure game, Shadowgate returns with a new HD remake. The game will also feature tons of new areas and puzzles — you know, just in case the originals didn’t hurt your brain enough. Here’s the game’s Steam page.
