Five Games: ‘The Walking Dead: In Harm’s Way’ And Everything Else You Need To Play This Week

Consoles, PCs, handhelds, Facebook, smartphones — the world of gaming is becoming increasingly confusing and fragmented, but don’t worry, we’re here to simplify things for you. Each week I’ll rattle off five games I think you might want to check out this week. Keep in mind, these articles aren’t meant to be comprehensive lists of everything coming out that week so much as a nice rounded tasting menu. So, let’s get to it…

This Week’s 3D Platformer

The Last Tinker: City of Colors (PC, Mac & Linux, May 12th)

Miss colorful 3D platformers in the Mario 64 or Jak & Daxter vein? Well, then The Last Tinker is the game for you. You play as a boy named Koru who must stop a dark force known as The Bleakness from destroying Colortown. So yes, this is a 3D platformer where you’re literally fighting against the scourge of grey-brown grittiness. How can you not love that?

This Week’s Time Travelling Platformer

Super Time Force (Xbox 360 & Xbox One, May 14th)

Want to play a game that’s one part Contra and one part Gunstar Heroes with the art style of Fez? Oh, and also there’s time travel? Well, you’re in luck, because Super Time Force is all those things! Basically, once you die (and you’ll die a lot) you can rewind and replay a level with your own ghost as a co-op partner — the more you fail the more “partners” you get. Don’t worry, it’ll make sense once you actually play the game.

This Week’s Other Time Travelling Platformer

Chronology (PC, May 12th)

Chronology takes reckless abuse of time travel to new levels. This game allows you to jump back and forth in time at will, and it looks like you’ll do it pretty much constantly. Can’t get over a jump? Maybe time travel will help! The game looks fun, but man, history is going to end up pretty thoroughly f–ked.

This Week’s Cat Shooter Thing

Scram Kitty and His Buddy on Rails (Wii U, May 15th)

Scram Kitty is an oddly titled shooter in which you play a cat that’s magnetically attached to a series of rails, although you can also jump from rail to rail, so it’s kind of a platformer too. Weird! Oh, and it’s a 3rd party Wii U exclusive — extra weird!

Pick of the Week

The Walking Dead Season Two: Episode 3 – In Harm’s Way (PC, Mac, Xbox 360 & PS3, May 13th)

Man, Telltale has to do something about these unwieldy titles. That said, In Harm’s Way looks like it’s appropriately titled, as the episode puts poor Clementine in danger as often as possible. Prepare yourself for a stomach churning good time!

A platformer-heavy week! Any games you’re itching to get your hands on that I failed to mention? Hit the comments and let the world know.
