Garfield, ‘Spider-Man Saved My Life.’ Ifans, ‘The U.S. Sucks.’

Andrew Garfield surprised fans at the Spider-Man panel at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, cleverly hiding his identity by dressing up as Spider-Man in a cheap costume.  Garfield grabbed the Q&A mic before the event started and professed his love of the web-slinger.

“Can I say one thing? This might be the most incredible day of my life,” the stammering star said before removing his hood and receiving wild applause from fans.

“I needed Spidey in my life when I was a kid,” said Garfield. “He’s saved lives and he saved my life.

What can we say Garfield? You did a top notch job of winning over fans. Rhys Ifans who is playing the villainous Lizard took another approach. According to The Wrap:

Ifans, who smelled of alcohol, became irate when a member of his entourage was unable to enter the hall for lack of proper credentialing, police said. He shoved the guard, and was allowed to participate in the panel, but the guard subsequently made a citizen’s arrest. “He was aggressive and belligerent,” Lt. Andra Brown said of the Welsh actor. “.

and

“But, according to him, the U.S. sucks and he doesn’t want to come back,” Brown said

Ifans was allowed to participate in the panel but mostly remained silent. Garfield, Emma Stone, director Marc Webb and producer Avi Ari went on to field questions on a wide array of topics including the new suit, the raw footage previewed for the audience and Tobey Maguire.

From Moviefone:

Garfield said he was on the phone with Maguire every night and that the previous Peter Parker served as a “suicide hotline.” Actually, Garfield clarified, he did get Maguire’s blessing only indirectly, through Webb. “He’s the best, right? He didn’t have to do that. I’m Team Tobey.”
