‘Tron 3’ Might Still Have Some Life According To Garrett Hedlund, Even If It Takes 30 Years

Fans of Tron waited quite a while for a sequel to the groundbreaking science fiction classic from Disney and Tron Legacy didn’t seem to disappoint. When word of a third film started making its way around, people were excited and it seemed that much of the cast was on board and things were moving along nicely. Then, Disney dropped the project entirely — or so it seemed.

Garrett Hedlund just revealed that there might still be a little life left in Tron, talking about the fate of a third film with ComicBook.com while promoting Pan:

“I haven’t been told it’s totally dead,” Hedlund said of Tron 3. “Ever since we did Legacy, we knew that to have another story follow it up, it had to be concrete and exciting. Disney needed to have the right story to go forward. I think it was going to introduce some things that were as exciting as Legacy was and then some, though…

“Who knows, maybe it’ll be like Legacy was to the first Tron, it’ll be 30 years, and I’ll have my young Flynn CGI face, who knows?”

Another thirty years for a new Tron film? Why not. I doubt Disney would actually wait that long to bring the series back a third time, but who knows. They’ve got no need to rush with all of the franchises and acquisitions they’ve got under their belts. Maybe Tron 3 could be the crossover Marvel wants with The Avengers, taking on the evil Ultron after it infects Tron and uses it to conquer the missile base from Wargames. And the only one who can stop him is Bruce Boxleitner. Dreams will come true.
