Gotham never, ever plays it safe, and the show’s final arc is stepping up the absurdity and overall operatic nature substantially. People were complaining about a lack of a vigilante who hides in the shadows and runs around punching criminals, so they introduced one, Azrael! Who is the formerly dead and now just very unstable and seemingly bulletproof Theo Galavan! And now they’ve given Alfred a sword and a gun, so we put Azrael’s chances of being put back in the ground at roughly 1:1.
Which is cold comfort to Gordon, since Azrael is after his neck. Galavan still holds a grudge from that whole “being shot in the face” thing, after all. This episode will mostly hinge around a mystical sword treasured by the cult that Galavan belongs to, which of course is within an hour’s drive of Gotham.
Of course, that’s not all that’s going on. Last week’s episode closed with the Riddler discovering the Indian Hill facility where Hugo Strange is building his supervillains, set to one of the strangest musical choices in television history. So that, presumably, will have bearing on where Nygma goes from there. We’ll find out just what plans the Riddler has for his fellow supervillains tonight at 8 p.m. EST. Join us, won’t you?
