A Breathtaking Clip From ‘Gravity’ Just Dropped

Alfonso Cuarón returns with Gravity, his first feature film since Children Of Men in 2006, and it looks like it was totally worth the wait. Warner released some of the intense footage they screened at Comic-Con. The video, titled “Detached”, shows the scene wherein debris from a passing satellite crashes into George Clooney and Sandra Bullock’s shuttle while they’re on a spacewalk.

Those beautiful long shots from Children Of Men are back, and Cuarón and his son Jonas have written about another plausible turn of events instead of making Zombie Movie #586. We’ve heard the first 17 minutes are one unbroken shot, perhaps the reason Guillermo Del Toro called Gravity five years ahead of its time.

To reiterate what I said about Gravity‘s trailer, I love that this movie is something which could really happen instead of using magic, invincible serial killers, or other B.S. as a lazy stand-in for complicated issues like cancer, violence, and the snap realization that we’re on a rock hurtling through a mind-bogglingly large expanse of what-the-f*ck-is-out-there space.

We recommend checking this out in HD.

Gravity opens in IMAX and 3D on October 4th.
