Henry Cavill Is Optimistic We’ll See A ‘Man Of Steel 2’

Odds do not look good for a new standalone Superman movie. Warner Bros. has a pretty extensive schedule of solo superhero movies between now and 2020, and Man of Steel 2 is not on it. Zack Snyder admitted recently that Batman V Superman came about because of Superman’s crappy villains. But hey, Henry Cavill feels good about its chances!

Cavill is currently working the press circuit both for the fight we’ve all wanted to see in the movies for decades and The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and thus, he gets asked about Man Of Steel 2. A lot. His current response, according to Entertainment Weekly?

“There’s plenty of time for individual Superman sequels… He’s a tough character to tell. People like the darker vigilante. I think it speaks to the human psyche more easily rather than the god-like being that we can’t really understand. Once we have a more expansive universe we can delve more into the character of Superman and hopefully tell more stories.”

In other words, Warner Bros. wants another Batman movie first. It’s perhaps not a surprise that Man of Steel 2 is on the back burner, considering they’ve got Justice League on the way, but one hopes the studio takes a second crack at Superman — if for no other reason than he can save a burning puppy orphanage in the opening, turn to the camera, and say “Now are you satisfied?!”
