Idiot Parents Name Their Kid “Dovahkiin” For Free Games

There’s lots of ways to express your nerdity that we celebrate: painting vans, wearing elaborate homemade costumes, building things in Minecraft, hacking road alert signs, you name it. But we draw the line at naming your children after obviously fictional characters. Kids have to tote that name around for the rest of their lives (even if you legally change your name, that doesn’t apply to federal documents like your passport), and it’s like kicking them in the crotch right when they leave the womb.

And then Bethesda, obviously not realizing how far some people will go, announced that if you had a kid born on 11/11/11, and named him “Dovahkiin”, you’d get free Bethesda games for life. In a blog post where Bethesda themselves said they thought it was a bad idea.

So, congratulations to Jade and Trevor Kellermeyer on having Dovahkiin Tom Kellermeyer and soon likely a visit from Child Protective Services, and our condolences to Dovahkiin Tom Kellermeyer for having parents gleefully sacrifice his dignity to save a couple of bucks and get some media attention. We’ve sent you Baby’s First Weight-Training Set; we suggest you start lifting now.
