Idris Elba Might Not Be Playing A Classic ‘Star Trek’ Villain After All According To Simon Pegg

We reported at the tail end of last week that Idris Elba’s name was being thrown around as the main villain in the next Star Trek movie. It had been rumored that Klingons would end up being the main enemies in this next chapter of the classic sci-fi series, but Elba isn’t playing one according to Simon Pegg.

Scotty himself sat down for an interview with Absolute Radio and cleared up some of the rumors:

“That’s not true. No, no, no. I heard there’s a rumor he’s been spoken to about stuff, so he may be in the film but he won’t be a Klingon. [Laughs] Or maybe he will.” (via)

OK, so maybe he didn’t clear much up. But as The AV Club points out, Pegg said similar things about Benedict Cumberbatch playing KHAN! in the last movie. That denial turned out to be a load of bunk, so maybe this denial is too. Hence the laughter.

I think Elba is in the movie at least, so that’s more fuel for that fire. We’ll just have to wait until we’re closer to July 8th, 2016 to be sure, all while hoping the movie doesn’t fall off the rails again.
