In Not So Shocking News, Nintendo Has Delayed The New ‘Legend Of Zelda’ For The Wii U

Nintendo has some more bad news concerning The Legend Of Zelda. They just finished refuting the rumor that Netflix was bringing the classic series to life for a live-action series, and now they’re announcing a delay for the newest Zelda title that’s scheduled for the Wii U. One of those things should be a surprise.

The delay is not the first time a Zelda title has faced delays before release. It’s actually a pretty common thing at this point, but no less disappointing. From Ars Technica:

In a YouTube message posted through Nintendo’s Miiverse messaging service, Aonuma says the team has “discovered several new possibilities” for gameplay while exploring the upcoming game’s open world structure. “As we have worked to turn these possibilities into reality, new ideas continue to spring forth, and it now feels like we have the potential to create something that exceeds even my own expectations,” he said in remarks translated from Japanese.

“As I have watched our development progress, I have come to think that rather than work with meeting a specific schedule as our main objective, and releasing a game that reflects only what we can create within that scheduled time, I feel strongly that our focus should be to bring of these ideas to life in a way that will make The Legend of Zelda on Wii U the best game it can possibly be,” he continued. In additional text remarks, he added that the development team has “decided to not show the game at this year’s E3.”

Kotaku pointed out the prior delays in detail, but I think the key thing is to look at the positives. Sure, the Wii U has some fairly terrible selections when it comes to marquee games, but the same could be said about the other two consoles out there. Nintendo can probably ride the wave from Super Smash Bros. and whatever terrible Mario Party game we’re up to and perfect this new open-world Zelda game that excited everybody at the Video Game Awards last year.

Just don’t expect to see it this year. Expect it, but just delay those expectations a bit. It’s the thing to do when it comes to Zelda games.
