IO Interactive Drops Some Tantalizing Hints About The Next ‘Hitman’

Today, confirming the rumors swirling, IO Interactive took to the official Hitman website to tell us what Agent 47 is up to next. And, honestly, it sounds like a lot of fun.

Granted, IO Interactive is not reinventing the wheel, but why should they? Despite the griping that surrounded the game, Hitman: Absolution was a highly entertaining game faithful to the core of the series, which is that there’s no fun in killing somebody in a video game if you can’t do it in a horribly creative way. It’s like puzzle gaming with more gore.

And the game IO Interactive is describing sounds, quite a bit, like Hitman: Absolution with a wider canvas. According to their open letter:

The game concentrates on the core Hitman fantasy of using a wide range of tools to take out a diverse group of targets across expansive, exotic locations around the world. That means we’re packing in an extreme level of detail on the largest levels we have ever built for a Hitman game. We’ve adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels. Our aim is to create living, breathing and believable levels which will allow gamers to play around with the AI to create those unique moments every fan of the Hitman franchise loves.

It’s also a prequel: Diana is back in your ear, and presumably they’re going to stop trying to “humanize” a bald clone whose only joy in life is seemingly garroting mooks. While there’s no word on a release date, yet, we can probably expect Agent 47 to be back in the game by 2015.
