Is ‘Iron Fist’ Really Netflix’s ‘Heroes For Hire?’

Years after it was announced, Netflix’s Iron Fist is coming together. And it’s shown both a desire to stick to classic ’70s Marvel and a taste for Game of Thrones actors with its new casting announcements.

Jessica Henwick has been cast as Colleen Wing, Iron Fist’s sidekick in the original comics and, just like Finn Jones, best known for her work on Game of Thrones: She’s Nymeria Sand of the Sand Snakes, who wields a whip almost as well as Indiana Jones. Colleen is a descendant of samurai who, in the comics, meets Danny Rand when he returns from K’un L’un and helps him out as he fights the various magical threats to New York. She doesn’t have any superpowers, but she doesn’t need any, as far too many HYDRA agents and the like have learned the hard way.

Just as interesting is that this means we’ve got all the Heroes for Hire in play, here. Misty Knight is arriving in Luke Cage and honestly, Colleen and Misty have more of a history kicking butt together than Colleen and Danny, and Danny, Luke, and the Daughters of the Dragon, as they’re known, all have more of a history together as a team than as Iron Fist’s buddies. While there is still a Defenders series supposedly on the horizon, you have to wonder whether it’ll still have that name when it finally arrives.
