The ‘It’ Remake Unleashes The Most Revealing Look Yet At Their Terrifying New Pennywise

Clowns, man. At this point, it’s hard to imagine anybody ever thought clowns were innocent fun, but Stephen King’s It certainly changed all that. The original TV miniseries created a generation of coulrophobes, and now It is getting the full cinematic treatment.

Back in July we got our first glimpse of the new Pennywise, as played by Bill Skarsgard, but like kids playing Bloody Mary at a sleepover, we wanted to see more. A shadowy shot of Pennywise’s wasn’t enough! Well, Entertainment Weekly has delivered, unveiling a more detailed, full-body shot of the clown who will be haunting a new generation of children’s dreams. Check it out…

They’re definitely going with a different look this time around. While the original Pennywise was a demonic version of various TV clowns, this new Pennywise has a more of an old-timey look, more Pagliacci than Bozo the Clown, but still plenty creepy. Here’s what the movie’s costume director had to say about the new look.

“He is definitely a clown from a different time. There is almost a doll-like quality to the costume. The pants being short, the high waistline of the jacket, and the fit of the costume is a very important element. It gives the character a child-like quality.”

It, directed by Andrés Muschietti, stalks theaters Sept. 8, 2017.
