James Gunn Had To Calm The Idiot Masses When He Confirmed Vin Diesel For ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’

On Monday, James Gunn confirmed Vin Diesel will return as Groot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Not that he needed to because, obviously, Vinny’s coming back to play the three-word, all-the-feels, talking tree in the sequel to Marvel’s fantastic space opera. But when a fan put the question to Gunn on a recent Facebook post, the director obliged.

The post itself didn’t have anything to do with the film, per se. After all, Gunn sure does love his social media — whether he uses it to admit he cried twice while watching Daredevil, or to call for a “kinder” kind of Internet in the wake of Joss Whedon’s Twitter exit. This time, he decided to talk about motivation and getting sh*t done.

Despite his nice words, however, nothing can stop the unwashed hordes from stumbling over one another in order to ask such obvious questions:

I mean, it’s sweet that Gunn still took the time to answer a fan’s question — especially after said fan had to correct himself. Unfortunately, the countless sets of skimming eyeballs only saw the “3” of the initial mistake and Gunn’s affirmative answer.

The Internet being what it is, a few of Gunn’s fans ran with the pseudo-news. A few minutes later, the director stepped in and, like a disappointed father, told everyone to “stop it”:

I’m not entirely sure why, but if James Gunn ever told me to “stop it” in any sort of public manner — online or otherwise — I’d shun myself out of such an indiscriminate sense of shame. Then again, I wouldn’t believe anything said about a third Guardians of the Galaxy film because Vol. 2 hasn’t even been made yet.
