One of the fun parts of this job is to shamelessly overanalyze even the barest scraps of information about upcoming nerd movies for a few hundred words. Keep that in mind as we talk about this Instagram.
A few things are obvious right off the bat. Well, actually just two things. The first is that Chewie looks particularly good with the right artist. The second is that this appears to be a crop from a larger image of our heroes getting off a ship, locked and loaded.
Beyond that, it’s interesting because this sure looks like the work of poster artist extraordinaire Drew Struzan, who’s probably best known for his Indiana Jones posters, but he also did posters for the entire Star Wars series. Struzan is currently retired, although he will occasionally come out of retirement if the job is right. It’s slightly flatter and more photorealistic than Struzan generally goes for, but rumors have been swirling he’s coming back, and if it’s not his work, it’s definitely inspired by it.
So this leaves us with one question: Who gets the original art?
