‘Jurassic World’ Hides A Hint Or Two In These Corporate Videos

As somebody with a film degree, I’ve done my share of “industrial” filmmaking, which too often entails cutting together a bunch of stock footage and laying down some voiceover written by a committee and read by that guy who did that thing in that show you watched in the ’90s. It’s soulless, artless stuff, and the Jurassic World PR team is clearly having a ball putting together straight-faced parodies of it, while hiding hints about the movie within the videos.

Up top there is a three-minute video that lays out the Masrani Corporation and its primary sectors: communications, oil, and genetic engineering. It explains that Masrani bought InGen in 1998, while simultaneously managing to avoid any mention of why, precisely, InGen was in trouble in the first place. Oh, we see hints: There’s a drill with a piece of amber in a vice, there’s a dinosaur egg, but somehow, all that unpleasantness back in the early ’90s just never quite comes up.

While the video doesn’t mention anything explicit, one thing that comes up more often than it should is the military. In fact, the video subtly implies that Indomitus Rex and Chris Pratt’s raptor training are not just to make a better attraction for the park. It also implies that Masrani may be experimenting with genetic engineering in humans, something which actually lines up with some of the stranger plot rumors we’ve heard over the years. There was a point where this movie was going to be about, no kidding, heavily armed military trained raptor/human hybrids. While we doubt we’ll see those, we won’t be surprised if a supersoldier program turns up at some point.

Finally, the video ends on what sure looks like a sabre-toothed tiger skull and the implication Masrani is cloning more than just dinosaurs. How much of this will turn out to be relevant, we’re not sure, but we’ll have answers June 12th.
