The cast of Warner Bros’ upcoming Justice League have to be squirming in their seats just a little following Suicide Squad‘s critical flogging. Sure, the movie made gobs of money in its opening weekend, and fans haven’t been nearly as negative as critics, but still, Justice League is being built on top of Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, and you want that foundation to be as solid as possible.
So what does Justice League‘s Ezra Miller think of the reaction to Suicide Squad? According to the new Flash, the criticism will just make the Justice League crew stronger:
“You needn’t look any further than the Suicide Squad director and cast response to the negative reviews to feel how negative critiques motivate us. Ultimately, we can’t base anything on the critical response. As artists, we aim to please absolutely everybody with our work, but we also know that we have to keep expressing ourselves as best as we can express ourselves. It’s like that T.I. song, Motivation.”
Motivation is great and all, but it isn’t that useful if you’re motivated in the wrong direction. Hopefully Warner Bros. and the minds behind Justice League also learned a few lessons from Suicide Squad‘s reception. Like, say, don’t panic at the last second, take a movie away from its director, and let a trailer company edit it.
In the same interview, Miller also took a moment to dispel the chatter that Zack Snyder directed his Suicide Squad cameo:
“Saying that Zack shot it would not be accurate. It was very much a collaborate effort that was supervised by DC. It was collaborative with David Ayer.”
Well, it certainly seems like Ezra Miller is motivated to be the good company man. If you need a studio-pleasing answer, he’ll be there in a flash!
