Let’s Talk Thursday’s Geeky TV: ‘Legends Of Tomorrow’ Goes ’50s Sci-Fi

Legends of Tomorrow has been hopping genres since its pilot. First it was Back To The Future, then it was a Cold War espionage action flick, last week it was Star Trek, and this week it’s a ’50s monster movie complete with mad scientists, malt-sipping teens, and the closest thing you can get to Bert I. Gordon behind the camera, Joe Dante, director of Gremlins.

In last week’s episode of Legends of Star Trek, we discovered just how cold Snart was, since he appears to have murdered his closest friend to protect the mission. This week appears to be a slightly more lighthearted episode, but only slightly, as Vandal Savage appears to be hanging out in Oklahoma, turning the local populace into twisted hawk monsters. Because of course he is. It’s the 1950s, what else are you going to do but turn the populace of a quiet Oklahoma town into hawk monsters? They haven’t invented video games yet!

Also, we get to see everybody run around in ’50s gear, which we suspect is part of the reason they made this episode. We’ll find out what Savage is up to, and whether they have the budget to give Joe Dante the theremin this episode so desperately needs tonight at 8 p.m. EST on the CW. Join us, won’t you?
