‘Luke Cage’s Main Villain And Plot Synopsis Allegedly Leak

Luke Cage is gearing up to shoot next month, to arrive on Netflix in 2016. But we’ve yet to hear a plot synopsis or, really, any idea what it’s about beyond Marvel heavily retconning a terrible villain for Alfre Woodard. But now, supposedly, we have the full plot summary, villain, and love interest.

That said, this comes from Heroic Hollywood, so grab your salt shakers. In particular, I find it questionable Marvel would stick this closely to Luke Cage’s origin, but here, supposedly, is the plot summary leaked from a breakdown:

Luke Cage is a former gang member who is framed for a crime. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bulletproof skin. Using his newfound powers, Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire. His archenemy is Willy Stryker, a former childhood friend from Harlem. The two committed petty crimes together, and both fell for the same woman, Reva Connors, which led to their eventual falling out. It was Stryker who framed Cage for a drug deal that sent him to prison.

Willis Stryker is better known to nerds as Diamondback, who along with his henchman Cottonmouth… look, villains like theme naming, okay? Anyway, Diamondback and Cottonmouth are the gangsters Cage fights in his origin, and this pretty closely conforms to the original comics, although I doubt Diamondback will be wearing his suit.

Like I said, I’ve got to question Marvel going the whole “reformed ex-con” route. Leaving aside the racial issues, it’s just lazy, as origins go. Either that or we won’t spend too much time on Luke Cage’s past, which would be preferable. Come on, we’re not here for Luke’s deep personal feelings! Throw a gangster into the East River!
