This Son Received A Seriously Overdue Luke Skywalker Toy For Christmas

Ask a baby boomer about a highly sought after piece of memorabilia, toy or comic and you’ll likely hear sob stories about full boxes featuring the first appearance of Spiderman, a Pete Rose rookie card, and maybe some bags of original G.I. Joe toys that were unceremoniously thrown out by their mothers when they had to make room in the attic for old baby clothes (or sauce pans that were still usable).

Their tales will be followed-up with a single tear, maybe a clenched fist, but most definitely with a thousand-yard stare at the horizon. What could’ve been. What could’ve been…

But not for this lad. Redditor OMGParty was given a Christmas gift thirty years late, and that’s what makes this present so, so sweet.

My mom bought this back in the 80’s and forgot about it in the back of a drawer. Today she gave it to me as a Christmas gift! I’m amazed! Going to be holding on to this forever!

Yes, that’s a Star Wars Luke Skywalker X-Wing Pilot toy, in the package, and featuring a “Revenge of The Jedi” promotion in which 6 proofs of purchase will get the lucky collector an Admiral Ackbar figurine (not a trap). Thanks to his mother not cleaning out a drawer for over a quarter century, OMGParty was able to receive one of the best Christmas gifts ever.

Now, let’s look at the back of the package. Back when backs of packages for toys were done right (the 80’s):

So awesome. Check out OMGParty’s original post for close-ups of the K-Mart $2.50 price tag, and unfettered nostalgia.
