Matthew Modine Is Yet Another Dark Knight Rises Villain

If you were worried that The Dark Knight Rises might be running low on villains, you can relax. Matthew Modine has signed on to play another baddie, joining Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman and Tom Hardy’s Bane. Which is great, because if there’s one thing we’ve learned from the 80’s Bat-movies, it’s that the more bat-villains the better.

Modine’s been cast as “Nixon,” described as “a politician and a key villain” according to a source quoted by Showbiz 411. The key villain part is particularly troubling. The previous two Nolan Bat-films each had a bunch of minor villains (Does anyone even remember that Zsasz was in Batman Begins?), but if they have to split up plot time between several major villains, that could be trouble. After all, it’ll definitely be hard to get any villain to top Heath Ledger’s Joker, but that’s certainly not going to be helped by giving each villain less time for their role.

Let’s just hope Bane gets more time than the tiny, mute part he got in Batman & Robin.
