Having just added two more series regulars to its cast, CBS’s Supergirl is really shaping up to be the most high profile new show of next season, but what should audiences be expecting from Kara’s personality and character dynamic? Well, series star Melissa Benoist has an answer.

“What’s so wonderful about her is that she is such a relatable character, amongst her powers,” said Benoist. “What I’m the most excited about is telling a story about a human being really realizing their potential and their strength, and I think that’s something that everyone will root for and want in their own lives – I’m really excited about that.” (Via)

The best comic book adaptations are always the ones that create relatable characters in hyper-realized worlds. For example, we don’t root for Ollie and Barry on Arrow and Flash because they’re skilled or super-powered, it’s because they’re flawed individuals that suffer from emotional distress like the rest of us. If that’s the type of character we can expect from Supergirl, then there’s no reason it shouldn’t be able to stand with some of the already in-existence greats.
