The whole Mortal Kombat aesthetic is thoroughly stuck in the the late-90s (did you catch that System of a Down launch trailer?), but the upcoming Mortal Kombat X won’t be entirely stuck in the past.
Johnny Cage’s daughter, Cassie Cage, has a somewhat amazing Fatality, in which she tears off her opponent’s jaw, then takes a selfie with their corpse. Even better, she then uploads the selfie to a parody version of Facebook, which is full of inside jokes. Other fighters even comment on the pic.
Now, all we need is a Fatality where somebody gets swatted or maybe crushed with a giant hashtag, and Mortal Kombat will be fully up to date.
