Neil deGrasse Tyson And His Star Vest Make The Best Case Yet For Why Water On Mars Is Important

Clad in the gaudiest looking vest money can buy (not that I would be above wearing it if given the chance), Neil deGrasse Tyson stopped by Real Time with Bill Maher as the special final segment guest. The topic of discussion was obviously Mars and a little bit of Matt Damon in The Martian (though nothing about Tyson spoiling the damn movie on Twitter), and it involved Tyson giving the best defense to NASA’s recent discovery that you’ve likely heard yet.

It was so good, noted hard head Bill Maher was forced to change his mind and say that water on Mars actually is pretty cool and beneficial. There was a lot of Bill Nye’s reasoning tossed in, too, including some discussion on the idea that we may be descended from Martian bacteria and organisms. All very interesting stuff that doesn’t need to be scoffed at because it doesn’t involve the moment we’re living in right now.

Using the past inventions that have revolutionized our lives and connecting them to discoveries that were initially laughed at is a good strategy to get folks to care. Then again, Tyson doesn’t have the same backlash as Nye did on The Nightly Show.
