Break Out The Butterbeer Because Three ‘Harry Potter’ E-Books Are Being Released Next Month

Following the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, J.K. Rowling, shaper of childhoods and creator of Hogwarts, claimed that she would not be writing any additional Harry Potter novels. The recently released play was apparently her send off to the beloved characters and she would not be continuing the story of The Boy Who Lived.

However, she isn’t completely leaving behind the world of magic to live life as a simple muggle forever, because according to Pottermore, the interactive Harry Potter website that Rowling started, new eBooks would be released on September 6. Get hyped, nerds, because we’re getting backstory!

According to Pottermore, there will be three new short stories: Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide, which is probably the closest we’ll ever get to a Hogwarts history tome; Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Political and Pesky Poltergeists, which will explore the darker aspects of the wizarding world and Horace Slughorn; and, finally, Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies, which will give us insight into some of Hogwarts’ staff, specifically Minerva McGonagall and her involvement in the second wizarding war. Honestly, I would pay a boatload of galleons for a young McGonagall series, but you can’t always get what you want.

Each eBook will be $2.99 and will feature “tidbits taken from Pottermore’s archives and original writing from J.K. Rowling.” One of the biggest criticisms of The Cursed Child was that Rowling didn’t write the prose herself, so it was lacking in the spark that made Harry Potter so special in the first place. Hopefully these short stories will prove a return to the original magic.
