Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, And John Boyega Shed Light On Their ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Roles

As you may have heard, there was a big Star Wars: The Force Awakens live panel this afternoon. Obviously, the unveiling of the latest teaser trailer was the big highlight of the show, but other interesting tidbits were also scattered throughout.

Probably the most revealing comments came from the movie’s three young leads, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega. The three loosened up just a bit and spilled a few details about their characters, and how they reacted to being cast in The Force Awakens.

Oscar Isaac plays Poe Dameron, who he describes as “the best friggin’ pilot in the galaxy.” According to Isaac, his character will also be on a mission assigned to him by a certain princess. Hmmm! In a funny anecdote, Isaac talked about how he did a little lightsaber practice routine with his shampoo bottle to psyche himself up for his table read.

Oscar Boyega plays Finn, who might be a stormtrooper (Boyega was still somewhat cagey about it). According to Boyega, he was so nervous about the whole Star Wars thing, he didn’t even tell his family about his casting, until official photos of were released. He told his dad he was just filming 24.

Daisy Ridley says her character Rey is a scavenger, until she meets Boyega’s character, at which point I assume scavenging gives way to adventuring.

The new trailer offers a few more tidbits about the characters. One shot clearly shows Boyega out of his stormtrooper costume and in more of a Han Solo-like getup. It also seems like Daisy’s character won’t be any sort of damsel in distress, as many of the most badass shots in the trailer belonged to her.

Three new superstars in the making.
