The ‘Rise Of The Tomb Raider’ Launch Trailer Debuts A New Karen O Track

Ever since she escaped a haunted island full of insane pirates, things have not gone well for one Lara Croft. Unsurprisingly, nobody has believed a woman with a ridiculous story who isn’t completely stable and left a bunch of corpses on that island. The best thing for Lara to do is just go to therapy and focus on archaeology in an academic setting. So, of course, it’s off to Siberia to find the Holy Grail.

The trailer has quite a bit of gameplay footage, mostly dedicated to the platforming; Lara hasn’t lost any of her gymnastic skills. What’s more interesting is that it’s focused on her emotional state. Yes, there’s the holy grail and a silly conspiracy and lots of guys in military outfits spouting the usual nonsense. But it’s set to a melancholy new Karen O song, which may be the closest we get to new Yeah Yeah Yeahs for a while, not the usual generic metal game trailers are scored with, and Lara seems more at home running from disaster and leaping from cliffs than talking to her own sister.

So, yeah, the game looks fun, but we admit, we’re looking forward to Croft as a potentially unstable survivalist a bit more. Rise of the Tomb Raider is an Xbox One exclusive out Nov. 10.
