Robot Robin Hood Is Not To Be Trusted

Oh look, it’s Chief Running On Batteries.  Nice hat, d*ck.

Dr. Peter Kormushev and his team at the Italian Institute of Technology (the same group who taught a robot to flip pancakes) are now teaching a robot to hit a bullseye with a bow and arrow.  STOP DOING THAT.  It’s not going to steal from the rich to give to the poor.  It’s going to kill the rich and then whittle their bones into projectiles to shoot at the poor but only injure them because he knows they don’t have good health insurance and it’s going to take them months to get the hospital bills reimbursed and it’ll really suck.  Robots are totally devious like that.

This robot is an iCub, which is open source and pre-loaded with ARCHER (Augmented Reward Chained Regression).  The ARCHER is a learning algorithm which guarantees the robot will improve its aim with each successive shot.  In the clip below, it took eight tries for the iCub to hit the bullseye.  There’s no audio, so just imagine a blogger boarding all his windows and screaming.
