Ryan Davis Of Giant Bomb Has Died At 34

We don’t talk a lot about the Giant Bombcast on here, but it’s one of the best podcasts about gaming out there. It’s funny, it’s engaging, and it’s well-produced, reflecting Giant Bomb and its principals. Unfortunately, there comes word it has suffered an enormous, tragic blow: Ryan Davis, one of the hosts, has passed away.

Davis, according to Giant Bomb, passed away on July 3rd, having just recently gotten married. His colleagues at Giant Bomb had this to say:

Ryan was a good friend to all of us. It’s odd to remember that, for someone who could be so acerbic at times, and despite knowing him for almost a decade, I honestly don’t recall ever actually being mad at him. He had an unconventional type of kindness that expressed itself more strongly the longer one knew him, and despite his teasing nature, he always managed to make his close friends feel loved when his attention turned towards you.

Davis worked for years at GameSpot before founding Giant Bomb with his friend Jeff Gerstmann. He cohosted several video shows on GameSpot over the years, often serving as one of the funniest things on the site. Games journalism is a small town, and if you spend long enough working it, you tend to hear a lot about everybody working the beat. Davis was, without exception, one of the most beloved guys on the scene. His work on the Bombcast was highly respected and he was seen as personally one of the nicest guys.

We here at GammaSquad want to extend our deepest sympathies to his wife and his friends at Giant Bomb. He will be missed.
