One of the most unfortunate side effects of Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima’s ugly breakup with publisher Konami was the cancellation of Silent Hills. In case you’ve forgotten, Silent Hills was a revamp of the Silent Hill franchise, spearheaded by Kojima and Guillermo del Toro, and set to star The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus. The demo/teaser for the game, entitled P.T., was absolutely terrifying, and early concept footage looked crazy as hell. The loss of Silent Hills was certainly a painful blow for survival horror fans.
But is Silent Hills truly dead? Since Konami’s cancellation of the game, Guillermo del Toro has stated he still wants to collaborate with Kojima, and Norman Reedus has straight-up said Silent Hills “has to happen.” Well, now you can add another promising sign to the pile, as Kojima recently met up with Reedus for an “update”:

Kojima is starting up a new Sony-backed version of Kojima Productions, and it sure seems like he might be interested in reviving Silent Hills (under a different name, naturally). Or maybe his next game will be a dating sim or Pokémon ripoff. Predicting what Kojima’s going to do is a fool’s game. That said, he wants to get his new studio off on solid footing, and going ahead with a version of Silent Hills would be a surefire fan pleaser, so I’m going to say it definitely could happen. Maybe. Possibly.
