‘Star Wars’ And Daft Punk Collide In Funky Electro Mashup ‘Darth Punk – The Funk Awakens’

It’s been a little while since we’ve received any new music from the be-helmeted French dance music duo, Daft Punk. I mean sure, they ditched their iconic helmets earlier this year in the name of art. Hell, Natalie Imbruglia even returned from obscurity to cover one of their songs. It’s been a year since they took home the Grammy for Album of the Year and there’s a rumor out there that the duo will follow up Random Access Memories with a house music release.

But…but…I want some new Dafty tunes now, dammit!

Sometimes, the internet is the best place to scratch such an itch. While fan videos and mashups are a dime a dozen, sometimes one achieves ascendance above the rest. This brings me to the above video. Here, the visual cues of Star Wars are melded together with some Daft Punk-style beats in a funky amalgamation titled “Darth Punk – The Funk Awakens.”

Created by a filmmaker collective known as Infectious Designer, the music video mixes ’80s retro elements, a bunch of lightsaber wielding alley people, and a neon Darth Vader and Boba Fett into something geeky and magical. While neither character has ever really been presented in such a colorful manner, I must say it strangly fits both villains well. Who knows, maybe the time is upon us to see a Vader/Fett electro collaboration hit the likes of Hype Machine and Sound Cloud. First, take over the music blogs. Then, take over the world!

Seriously, The Rebels barely stand a chance.
