The New ‘Star Wars’ Monopoly Game Leaves Out Rey, And Fans Aren’t Happy

Here we go again. It happened with Gamora, it happened with Black Widow, and now, once again, Disney and their licensing partners are in hot water over leaving out a female character. And, once again, they’re getting a slow roasting from the fans.

Specifically, fans have noticed that the new Star Wars Monopoly has Finn, Kylo Ren, and Luke Skywalker — as well as Darth Vader from Return of the Jedi for some reason — but no Rey. They revived the #wheresrey campaign calling out retailers like Target for a lack of Rey toys, and the reactions ranged from annoyed to furious:

Hasbro responded by saying that including Rey would be a spoiler because she (spoiler?) fights Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance. Because, you know, it would be impossible to draw that conclusion from the trailer, or this Duracell ad, or any of the other marketing materials, or anything else about the movie before its release. We get that people are touchy about spoilers, but come on, Hasbro, give kids some credit. Hasbro also promised to release some Rey figurines as add-ons later in the year.

We’ve discussed before that this is a policy that goes straight to the top. It even applies to Princess Leia, even when it makes no sense. Hopefully Disney and its partners realize they’re leaving money on the table. Besides, Rey’s the hero, doesn’t she deserve to take Boardwalk?
