Chewbacca And BB-8 Team Up In A ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’-Themed Verizon Ad

Just last week, we requested a scene with BB-8 and Chewbacca having a conversation (subtitles optional), and Verizon has already delivered. In an ad tie-in with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Verizon pitchwoman Catherine Keener sells something — I wasn’t paying attention to what because ¯_(ツ)_/¯ — using a scene of BB-8 and Chewbacca sneaking around a First Order base that looks like it was pulled right out of the Original Trilogy. They even threw in a Wilhelm scream, just like old times.

There were a couple of hints that this was filmed separately, though. (J.J. Abrams was involved, as was Pinewood Studios, but the directing job went to Star Wars: The Force Awakens first AD Tommy Gormley.) The lasers in Chewbacca’s bowcaster are the wrong color (red instead of green) and a Stormtrooper gets up after being shot, because ads can’t show people dying, even if they’re basically a space Nazi. So, if you’re keeping track — showing a Stormtrooper possibly being mortally wounded? Wrong. Boner pill ads during The Price Is Right? Not a problem.

The ad doesn’t come with any subtitles, but we all understood at least one of the lines:

This post has been updated to give the correct voiceover and direction credits.
