‘Street Fighter V’ Reveals Punishments For Rage-Quitters, And The Return Of A Classic Fighter

Street Fighter V may have been a bit underbaked at launch, but to Capcom’s credit, they’re definitely working to tweak and expand the game. Today the company announced two big updates coming to Street Fighter V in April – a much-needed system to deal with online rage-quitters and the return of an all-time classic fighter.

Guile, sporting his standard wacky flattop and a new Air Force-inspired uniform, will be this month’s DLC fighter. On the one hand, it’s yet another blonde, American fighter in a game that already has a lot of them (Charlie, Ken, Alex), but hey, it’s Guile. A Street Fighter game isn’t really complete without him. Capcom will also be bringing back Guile’s classic Air Force Base, the first new DLC stage for Street Fighter V. Because Street Fighter V‘s real-money store isn’t working yet, Guile will be free on a limited trial basis. The Air Force Base stage will cost 70,000 in Fight Money.

Meanwhile, here’s how Capcom plans to deal with rage-quitters:

“The system will identify players who have high disconnect rates during matches and will lock them out of matchmaking for a period of time. Players who have been identified as abusing the system will receive an in-game message notifying them they have been locked out of matchmaking. More additions and enhancements to this system will be implemented in the future.”

The fact that the system only targets players who disconnect frequently hopefully means people won’t be banned for the occasional dropped connection. I guess we’ll see how it works soon enough.

There’s no date yet for the Street Fighter V April update, but I expect it will arrive on the last Tuesday of the month (April 25).
