The ‘Stretch Armstrong’ Movie Has Become A Netflix Series

For years, now, Hasbro has been trying to make a Stretch Armstrong movie happen. News arrives that it might, movie blogs express confusion and skepticism, and it disappears until the project resurfaces again. But it looks like Hasbro has finally found a buyer, and it’s… Netflix?

Yep, as part of Netflix’s push to be binge-watched by adults and non-adults, they’re commissioning new series, and one of them will be Stretch. The plot is a straightforward superhero story, according to Deadline:

It focuses on an overscheduled teenager named Jake Armstrong and his two best friends. When the trio is accidentally exposed to an experimental chemical, they become Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters, a team of unlikely stretchable superheroes who expand beyond the confines of their lives and embark on a series of adventures.

So, essentially teenaged Reed Richards, Plastic Man, and the Elongated Man team up and go on adventures. It’s not the worst premise for a kid’s show, although the fact that they have to work two “stretch” metaphors into the plot summary is hopefully where the stretch jokes stop. That said, you do have to wonder if kids will care about the corn syrup-infused hero, who isn’t even available in toy stores right now. But if nothing else, at least kids on Netflix will have something more to amuse them.
