Takashi Miike’s Phoenix Wright Adaptation Gets A Poster, Trailers, And Synopsis

A week ago we posted the first footage from Takashi Miike’s film adaptation of video game “Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney” (opening next February in Japan). It’s called Gyakuten Saiban (Turnabout Trial) in Japan, and answers the question, “Can we make a video game about literally any profession?” I hope the answer is yes, because we thought the chicken sexer game we developed would take off long before one about a lawyer. We also hope to make Gamma Squad the number one Google search result for “chicken sexer” +Japan. We’re well on our way.

The new poster is to the right, and we have the first trailer and TV spot embedded below. The official synopsis was posted in Japanese, for which commenter Elliotmears at BleedingCool offers a translation:

The year 20XX. Following an increase in horrendous crimes, the government introduces a new legal system, the abbreviated trial (my best guess – might be a neologism as I can’t quite get the meaning). In this system, the defense and prosecution meet in a direct confrontation and a judgement is passed down within a mere three days.  Newly-qualified lawyer Naruhodo Ryuichi’s boss Ayasato Chihiro, who truly understood his good nature, received a message that new evidence has been found in connection to a case that she had been chasing for many years. Then she was murdered in her office by persons unknown. Her sister, spirit-medium Ayasato Mayoi is arrested. Believing in Mayoi, Naruhodo takes on her case. Opposing him is celebrated aloof genius prosecutor and Naruhodo’s childhood pal Mitsurugi Reiji. The two must present their evidence and testimonies in a violent court battle.  After the trial, Mitsurugi is arrested on suspicion of murder! Naruhodo volunteers himself as Mitsurugi’s lawyer. Prosecuting Mitsurugi is his master, a legendary investigator who has never lost a case in 40 years, Kojima Kou.  As the trial progresses a connection to Mitsurugi’s father, Shin, a lawyer shot dead 15 years ago in the courtroom’s evidence warehouse while investigating “the DL6 case” becomes apparent. What will be the fate of Naruhodo, Mitsurugi and Mayoi!? And what is the truth hidden within the case!?

Oh you better believe there’s going to be lots of dramatic pointing.
