The First ‘Dracula Untold’ Clip Is Surprisingly Good

The very idea of a “Dracula Begins” type movie is kind of ridiculous on paper, but it’s starting to shape up to be interesting if nothing else. Especially with the first clip that’s shown up, which takes a… substantially different tack from what you’d expect.

Interestingly, they don’t seem to be dodging Vlad Tepes’ richly earned reputation as one scary human being. As he himself states, men don’t fear swords, but they do fear monsters, and by implying that if you get caught you’ll get a sharpened wooden stick where one should not be, he’s protecting his people. This scene is surprisingly light on the cheese.

And yes, before you ask, that is in fact Tywin Lannister with the pointy teeth there. He’s playing Caligula! No, really. While we doubt this will be a philosophical rumination on what a leader must do to protect his people so much as a big dumb action movie, it is nice to know the big dumb action movie will have at least one good scene. We’ll see if it has any more October 10th.
