Matt Damon Is Besieged By Technobabble And A Sandstorm In This First Clip From ‘The Martian’

The Martian, the upcoming sci-fi survival flick in which Matt Damon has to make a go of it alone on the red planet, has looked pretty promising in its first two trailers. Then again, Ridley Scott movies almost always look good in trailer form. Prometheus looked amazing, and the end result, while not without its merits, was pretty deeply flawed. Hell, even The Counselor and Exodus: Gods and Kings looked pretty solid in their trailers, and we know how both of those turned out.

Well, Fox has finally released a clip of The Martian that gives us a bit of a look behind the trailers, and there are a few warning signs. The clip starts off with lots of technobabble about newtons and abort forces, which may actually mean something, but it kind of feels like word soup. We also get some shots of a guy walking around outside the ship that, honestly, look kind of fakey? I’m probably being way too critical, but again, I’m past the point of trusting Ridley Scott trailers.

What do you think after checking out the clip at the top of this post? Is The Martian going to be all it’s cracked up to be, or will another Ridley Scott flick fail to live up to the hype? The Martian hits theaters Oct. 2.
