There’s A Little Edgar Wright And A Lot Of Paul Rudd In The ‘Ant-Man’ Script

Ant-Man‘s production history is best described as messy, starting as a passion project from Edgar Wright before winding up in the hands of the guy who directed Bring It On. And along the way, it apparently got a rewrite from not just Adam McKay but Paul Rudd as well.

It seems that Rudd was instrumental in turning the movie around after Wright left, according to McKay. During an interview with Collider, McKay breaks out the process, and he wasn’t exaggerating about he and Rudd spending six straight weeks rewriting the script.

So the two of us holed up in hotel rooms on the east and west coast, and I think it was like six to eight weeks we just ground it out and did a giant rewrite of the script. We added some new action beats… There’s a lot that’s already in there from what Edgar did, there’s a lot of dialogue and character still in there.

We do have to admit, we’re wondering just how much of Wright is actually left. It actually sounds like a lot of the script was rewritten. Still, it’s nice to know that Rudd’s not just in this for the paycheck and the profile boost, but because he wants to make Ant-Man actually work on screen. Of course, the last time this happened, we wound up with The Incredible Hulk, so we’ve got our reservations. We’ll find out just how it went next July.
