This "Prometheus" Spoiler Is Yet Another Attempt To Mislead Us

Dear Ridley Scott:

Give it up.

We’re neither blind nor stupid. The first official trailer has what is recognizably the egg chamber from the first “Alien”. The production design features a whole bunch of elements from the first movie, including what’s pretty blatantly the Derelict. You even largely have matched the cast one-for-one from the original movie.

Fine, we get it, there are probably not any Xenomorphs in this one, they’re probably acid-spraying robots or, more likely, we finally get to discover what the hell the Space Jockey actually is, and it’s unpleasant. Still, trying to pass off this casting spoiler as the “only” connection to the original franchise is a bit of a joke.

And that spoiler is…

Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland. You know, of Weyland-Yutani. And here’s Scott’s spectacularly crabby discussion of it:

The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. PROMETHEUS is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well.

I get they’re trying to temper expectations, but sheesh
