Tom Holland Talked About How ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Will Affect ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is revelatory for plenty of reasons, possibly chiefest of which is interconnectivity. These movies, as they happen, influence one another. The fallout of an Avengers movie is going to affect the films that follow, and vice versa. In the grand scheme of things, Captain America: Civil War may prove to be one of the most influential Marvel films in that respect. The shockwaves created in that film will be felt throughout Marvel’s cinematic output for the next few years. Amidst more dire consequences, ones we won’t mention because spoilers are no fun, there are still some brighter ones. For example, Civil War featured the debut of actor Tom Holland as the new Spider-Man. Aside from the fact that this means we’ll be seeing Spidey in more Marvel films, it’s also the lead-in for the imminent Spider-Man: Homecoming, the first Spider-Man film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which made quite the impression at San Diego Comic-Con this month. Because, as we’ve mentioned, everything with Marvel is interconnected, it seems obvious that the events of Civil War will affect Homecoming.

Tom Holland is well aware of this, and recently spoke to how the former film will affect the latter. Descriptions of the Homecoming footage from San Diego Comic-Con mentioned a bit in which Holland, as Peter Parker, is in class watching video of his escapades as Spidey on his phone. While Holland is keeping pretty mum as to bigger details, he did mention that, “…it’s like when you go on holiday and you come home, back to school and you’re like ‘Wow, I wish I was on holiday again.’ And that’s all I can say without ruining anything.”

While this is by no means a detailed explanation as to how Civil War will affect Homecoming, it’s an interesting tidbit. Peter’s escapades in Civil War are going to be something for which he holds something akin to nostalgia. Perhaps that will end up being one of the driving forces behind him continuing to suit up. Now that he’s gotten a taste of the action, he wants more. While Holland’s insight on the matter was interesting, hopefully soon someone will ask him the real questions, like what he thinks of the Clone Saga or whether or not organic webshooters are a disgrace to the legacy of the character.
