‘Warcraft’ Gives Us A Better Look At The Lion’s Pride Inn

No matter what the critics wind up saying about Warcraft, you won’t hear “It’s nothing like the game.” This brief tour of the Lion’s Pride Inn set shows just how detailed they are in getting the game right.

For those who didn’t lose a hundred bucks and most of a year to World of Warcraft back in the beginning of the century, the Lion’s Pride is one of the game’s starting areas, a place every player, no matter how they decide to play the game, usually winds up. As a result it’s one of the few places in the game everybody is intimately familiar with, which is sometimes literal, given the behavior of some WoW players. It also appears to be where Lothar gets a status update before things get crazy.

It’s definitely a welcome sight to see a video game movie take such pains to get the set dressing exactly right. The era of Super Mario in jet boots and Double Dragon turned into whatever this is was not so long ago, after all. On the other hand, it would be kind of nice to know exactly what’s driving our various heroes, aside from the fact they’re friends with eagles. We’ll find out soon enough, though: Warcraft arrives in theaters June 10.
