WWE And 2K Games Are Locking Up For A New Multi-Year Exclusive Deal

Back in 2013, long-struggling publisher THQ went under and 2K Games snapped up the right to make WWE titles, leading some to hope, perhaps foolishly, that a new, better era for WWE video games was upon us. Unfortunately, that hasn’t really panned out. WWE 2K15 introduced a new, sluggish grappling system and stripped away all but the most basic of features. WWE 2K16 restored a lot of features, but the clunky wrestling remained mostly unchanged. The series is improving, but it’s certainly taking its sweet time.

Well, expect things to stay on the same slow-moving course, as 2K Games today announced they’ve signed a new multi-year deal with WWE. No specific word on how long the deal is, but WWE has typically signed with publishers for five-year stints. WWE executive vice president Casey Collins talked about the company’s decision to continue their tag team with 2K Games…

“2K’s leadership in authenticity, quality and overall brand dedication has been a perfect complement for WWE. Our continued partnership ensures WWE remains at the forefront of global video game brands as we continue innovating and publishing our offerings on multiple platforms.”

Speaking of quality, it also came out today that the latest DLC pack for WWE 2K16 may delete your Universe Mode save data. Whoops!

“We’re aware of an issue some users are experiencing with Universe Mode save data connected to the Future Stars Pack DLC. If you are a Universe Mode player on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, we recommend waiting to download the Future Stars Pack until we fully investigate and resolve the issue. Thank you for your patience.”

WWE 2K: Thank You For Your Patience. It’s not the catchiest slogan, but it’s probably the most fitting.
