John Mayer’s Gorgeous Acoustic Cover Of Drake’s ‘Passionfruit’ Will Make Your Heart Explode

John Mayer is one suave dude. The singer/guitarists extraordinaire found himself in Amsterdam on Wednesday night for a concert where he decided to bust out a surprising cover of Drake’s More Life standout “Passionfruit.” Mayer’s rendition is decidedly stripped-back, featuring him singing alone with only an acoustic guitar to provide any kind of background music. Needless to say, his take on the song is absolutely gorgeous, filled with pathos, and brimming with emotion.

In an ironic twist — maybe he knew about it and that’s why he decided to play the song in this particular venue — Mayer busted out his Drake cover in the same exact venue that Drizzy cancelled on multiple times during his recent Boy Meets World tour through Europe. The fans were already in the building at the Ziggo Dome when a representative came out and leveled the boom back in March.

“I’m really sorry to tell you that tonight’s show cannot take place,” she said. “Drake got sick. His doctor told him not to perform. Tickets will stay valid for the show on Wednesday as he wishes to bring his fans the best show in the world.” The reasons for his cancellation remained murky. Drake’s people blamed the nixed performance on some bad sushi.
