Kendrick Lamar’s ‘DAMN’ Already Went Platinum In Just Three Weeks

Well, that didn’t take very long did it? After just three weeks out in the public, Kendrick Lamar’s latest record DAMN has officially been certified platinum. It’s his third such plaque in a row. The news about his passing the 1,000,000 mark in sales was trumpeted by K. Dots record label Interscope over Twitter.

To be honest, even while the speed at which he managed to pull off this feat is incredible, this kind of felt like an inevitability. Right out of the gate in it’s first week, DAMN was the recipient of better sales numbers than any other album put out thus far in 2017 with over 600,000 equivalent copies sold. It completely dunked on the numbers posted up by the previous record holder, Drake’s “playlist” project More Life by a full 100,000.

Since then, every single song off DAMN entered the Billboard Hot 100 in its first week. Even more impressive, not a single one of them dipped below No. 70 on the charts. Perhaps the most gratifying achievement of all for Kung Fu Kenny, the album’s lead single “Humble,” the song that cause so much controversy when it first debuted, became hit first-ever number one hit. It actually held down the top spot in the charts for two consecutive weeks.

2017 has really been the year of Kendrick Lamar and the awards just keep rolling in.
