Pusha T and Jay-Z are clear influences on the music of DC native Kingpen Slim, so cnce “Drug Dealers Anonymous” released I was counting down the days and hours before I heard his take on the two legends of street lyricism’s new single. It didn’t take long for Slim to jump on the ominous DJ Dahi production to recall his own tales of dirt done and dollars made. The scorching verse whips style, wordplay, and braggadocio into a frenzy until it emerges as a rock solid testament to Slim’s skill and admiration of those who tread the vial and baggie littered road to perdition ahead of him.
Hopefully, Pusha and Jay inspire more people to tell their story with a bit more flair than just scattered grunts and chuckles. But even it doesn’t, don’t worry. Kingpen Slim has the dope boys covered.
