Meet Lajan Slim, Florida’s Newest ‘Hood Olympian’ Who’s Poised To Make Noise

Oftentimes, when discussing regions on the rise, Florida gets overlooked, even though they’ve got a very solid flock of rappers on the rise when we think about guys like Robb Bank$, Kodak Black and Denzel Curry among others. Now, it’s time to add Lajan Slim’s name to the ever growing list.

After generating a strong response with his breakout track “Haitians” and the word of mouth buzz created by the local anthem “Quik Pik,” the Def Jam signee just dropped Hood Olympian as his formal introduction to the rap world. Hosting a succinct 11 songs, the project’s more of the Broward County-bred MC’s local color rhymes and tales of the streets. “It’s my story,” he said of the tape. “The trials and tribulations. Hood Olympian means a state of mind, or a person who has overcome the obstacles of the projects or the hood.”

Most of the tracks pack a sinister vibe structured around the sights and sounds the Slim encounters in his environment. Pair that approach with his straight-off-the-porch flows and he bears a slight comparison to another Slim – the late Soulja Slim of No Limit fame. Yes, that’s a lofty recognition for such a young artist but the 22-year-old has plenty of time to grow into the role as he simultaneously helps to shape the emerging sound of Florida for the world to hear.
